The cottage was originally a workshop for the local serpentine stone, which is found nowhere else in England. These workshops were used for the crafting of ornaments from the raw serpentine, by stone workers - the most skilled of which were known as turners. Some of the "turnings" left over from the making of serpentine artifacts have been found in and around the cottage. Beautiful serpentine ornaments are still made and sold in Lizard Village today and are an important part of the local heritage of the area.
The original building, which is over 130 years old, has been extended over the years and has recently been attractively refurbished to provide comfortable and peaceful holiday accommodation. Although fully modernised the cottage retains many of its original features, including an attractive window seat in the lounge. The cottage also benefits from a log burner - perfect for those cooler evenings in Autumn and Winter.
Stoneturner's Cottage is conveniently located in Lizard Village, a popular tourist centre close to the breathtaking scenery around Lizard Point and the wonderful beaches at Kynance Cove and Kennack Sands.
